ISJ's World Cup Coverage! (Because This Year, The U.S. Cares.)

The United States is trying a new thing this year.  We're "caring" about "soccer," a sport the rest of the world inexplicably refers to as "football" (which is just ridiculous because everyone knows "football" is a game where you carry an inflated oblong shape in your hands).

So what does this have to do with Jake?

Well, as we all know (or maybe don't), Jake Gyllenhaal is quite the athlete.  He hangs out at gyms:

He attends sporting events:

He's fond of athletic socks:

He's even been known to hang out in France with people who make their living performing feats of inhuman endurance:

And did you know that Jake presented an award at the ESPYs one year?  He did!  What's more athletic than that?

And of course there was that time in GQ magazine when he said that in his youth he loved soccer more than his family...

So if I had to guess what Jake might be doing today starting at 2pm/1pm Central while ABC shows the match between the U.S. and England, I...wouldn't have the faintest idea.

But I'll be watching the World Cup!  So suck it, England.  You may be the nation that invented whatever the hell that "offside" thing is, but we're the nation that gave the world this:

USA!  USA!

Soccer fan from HERE.

True. The USA did give us Jake, so I'll ignore the suck out England thing. Although, we did event FOOTBALL in the first place...so it evens out... ;)

Fair enough, anon! ;D (I had temporarily forgotten that England invented soccer...in the grand scheme of things, that probably ranks slightly more influential in the course of human history than the existence Jake Gyllenhaal...but just barely.)

OMG ive been up watching Korea v Greece game since 430. Im korean so today is a HAPPY day. went to Lamill Coffee (where Chris Pine, Jake) has been spotted and had the best coffee ever and the people were so nice (maybe because Korea won) but regardless...i will be there so frequently that one of these days i would *HAVE* to run into him RIGHT!? haha. anyways, go USA. (but secretly I love England because they have cooler fashion.) - Happydogblog

First of all, Jake gave an interview in which he talked about the World Cup???

I AM psychic!!!

Second of all, SILVER WON?!? Holy CRAP! And he was, like, flirting with you in the video!! And you get a poster which he has personally touched and signed with his own hands! (Because of all this, we can forgive the wrong name.)

After that, the 1-1 score just seems a little anticlimactic. ;D

Seriously, CONGRATULATIONS. You must show up pictures when you get the poster!!

SWEDEN?! Sweden gave us Jake's 17th century beetle-collecting forefather. Sweden cannot hold claim to the majesty produced on American soils. (Although my God, that would have been a clash of interests if the U.S. was scheduled to play Sweden in the World Cup...)

And Silver, I'm still freaking out on your behalf!! I love it when the true Jake fans get a break. ;) I'm not even joking when I say that his answer to your question was one of the best things I've ever heard. If anything happens to that poster in shipping, goddammit, I'll be writing a letter to Disney too! :)

I have to say if australia isnt playing i'm on Englands side, considering im a Possie (i have duel citizenship) i kinda have to! BUT! I must congratulate USA for at least drawing level with England.. great effort!!

AND OMG SILVER!!! OH MY GOD!!!! Forget the poster, the touching of the poster... he THOUGHT about you, JAKE THOUGHT ABOUT YOU!!!!

Completely forgot! I'm Belgian, we didn't even make it to the world cup. Might be a good thing, I'm supposed to be taking exams anyway...
Love your site in my breaks, and thank you for my dose of Jake for today!

Congratulations Silver!! Great question by the way.
