Jake and Taylor: IT'S OVER. And Really, Why Did Any of Us Care to Begin With?

How ironic that in yesterday's post, I commented on the slowness of the news when, in fact, the news was not slow at all!  On the contrary, it was yesterday that the story broke that sizzling celebrity duo Jake Gyllenhaal and Taylor Swift - whose whirlwind romance lasted somewhere between eight weeks and never - had reportedly split.

I did not know this because I honestly didn't check my Jake news before I put up that post.  I just made the assumption that nothing was going on because I was being lazy.  Truly, the odds are just not with the average Jake blogger on a day to day basis when it comes to things of alleged interest to report on...  So I missed this one.  I admit it.  And me?  Autocompleting on Google?  Arguably more unexpected than this development in Jake's love life.  Scratch that.  Definitely more unexpected.  Who would have ever thought my MySpace blog would rank above Jake Watch in terms of search options???????

Anyway.  I spent a lot of time during Jake and Taylor's short-lived romance ruthlessly mocking it and making the kinds of scathing comments that only I can get away with.  I thought about writing a relationship retrospective today so we could take a look back at the ups (apple-picking) and the downs (US Weekly, helicopters) but...who the hell cares?  It was dumb from start to finish, it was boring from start to finish, and it did nothing but make you guys fight with each other from start to finish.  And now, regardless of which side of the fence you were on before, it's bequeathed upon us a communal embarrassment that it's over so quickly.

On Jake Watch, we had a very strict no tolerance rule when it came to gossip, and I could count on one hand the number of posts we wrote that even indirectly referred to Jake's private life.  Part of that was because we were trying to do the right thing...but part of it was because we knew that talking about his personal business usually led to strong and not-always-healthy emotional responses from his fans.

But this blog is not Jake Watch.  And the longer I'm around, the less concerned I am about the reactions of others and the more interested I am in writing about what I want to write about.  That's why I wrote about these two to begin with.

What I'm realizing as I sit here, though, is that I never actually cared.  They were just something to talk about.  That's all.  Most of the time (as hinted at above) there isn't anything to talk about, and so I talked about them because it was a subject I was capable of expanding upon.  But now that we don't have them anymore, we'll go back to trying to find interest in things that aren't interesting.  In tired interviews, in relentlessly mundane paparazzi pictures, in endless (and groundless) speculation about new movies and new women.  It's exhausting me just thinking about it.

In the very near future, I'm going to start a new blog.  I'm by no means abandoning this one, but I am going to be more realistic about it.  Half of you hate that I don't write more about Jake and the other half only tolerate my current subject matter because you're too nice to tell me you'd rather read about something else.  And all I know is that when I got the news of this breakup, I felt obligated to write about it.  But I really didn't want to.  And look at that, I (kind of) didn't.

So (details and further explanation to follow) I'm moving on to the next thing.  Just like Jake and Taylor did, apparently sometime last month...

Hehe, good for you!! :-)
CANNOT wait for your next blog!!! (...by that time I'll most likely be unemployed and poor and have all the time in the world to pester you with comments ;-)

*off to write concluding comments on my paper*

haha nice how you didn't wrote about the break up ...

And all I can say is: I'm looking forward to all your posts - tho I might not make it here on a daily basis anymore, it's just life ...

And WHAT??? o_O was my first reaction - I never thought it'd end so soon, no matter if a publicity stunt or not

Well, I for one, like your writing a lot, regardless of subject matter. You are talented & funny & have a really great wry sense of humor & sarcastic wit. There is a lot out there that you can use to write about, for sure, so even though I have really enjoyed the Jake posts, (mostly because of poking fun at all of it), I will certainly enjoy reading your new blog. Bring it on! >;-D

Oh yeah, I forgot to add I didn't ever give a flying fuck about Jake & Taylor's supposed relationship. Seriously. But it was fun to watch the craziness that ensued among the fans the short time it lasted, for sure. >;-)

He's biding his time waiting for you to come around and love him again, PG. SOULMATES! ;]

YAAAY! I'm excited for your new blog. I don't comment a lot because i post on other blogs and after typing like 2 comments i get tired. I'm really lazy. I have to say that i enjoy the posts that aren't about Jake more. I frequent 2 other Jake blogs so i don't come here for news on him, i come here because of your humour and everyone else who comments:)

OT: on the last post we were talking about the birds, and someone talked about the world supposed to be ending in 2012. In school this year my teachers told us students that the scientists who read the mayan calender read it wrong and it said the world was supposed to end awhile ago.

Sasha,  January 6, 2011 at 3:00 AM

OT @Lola That one was me :) I don't know who actually "invented the idea" of apocalypse in Dec 2012 but I think there was more than one person/nation that supposed it...
Maybe we are all in hell already and just don't know?? (re the mayans) o_O

Becky Heineke January 6, 2011 at 8:52 AM

^^^ HA! I'd almost believe it!

Lola, that's REALLY interesting that we may have been reading the calendar wrong all this time. My argument against the Mayan thing (amongst many others) has always been that the world was already around when the Mayan calendar *started* so, uh... I don't know why the end date would have more significance than the start date, but I guess people just love a good doomsday scenario... :D

Mo - FUR REALLLLL. You know what he needs to do? He needs to start blogging about me! If this is ever going to work, he's got to be willing to put some more effort in...

Thank you to all of you for being so wonderful! I'll try to get the new blog up and running SOON. :D

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Jake actually made the press in the UK by getting with TS and now it's OVER? Jake, I feel like you didn't even give it a chance. Apparently Naomi didn't approve...that might be old news to everyone else but its all I have.

Becky Heineke January 6, 2011 at 10:38 PM

^^^ And that, right there, is why it will just never be the same without you... :)

(I totally assumed Naomi put him up to it to begin with, but the short-lived nature of it all definitely suggests otherwise. I breathed a sigh of relief upon learning he was out in public with his mom not long ago. HE IS STILL THE SAME JAKE. THANK GOD. I don't know that I could cope with anything less from him...)

Lola,  January 6, 2011 at 11:40 PM

I hope you don't mind me asking, but what do you mean you assumed Naomi put him up to it in the first place?

Becky Heineke January 7, 2011 at 9:24 AM

There is a perception, which I happen to subscribe to, that Jake is a bit of a momma's boy. There is also a perception that she, shall we say, is very involved in his career and has a substantial say in his public image. "Naomi's approval" is something we kind of joke about, but with the more ostentatious publicity things in his life (such as this most recent relationship), there's always an underlying suspicion that she really did play a hand in the orchestration of it...

(Was that vague enough for you?? ;D)

PG - can't wait for the new blog!

I love Jakewatch and here because I have literally sprayed monitors with my tea or snorted while trying not to laugh too loud at my cubicle at work. I found it because Jake was a hottie but stayed because of PG & BPB.

I didn't think Jake was into the whole media manipulation thing - until I saw those thanksgiving photos! (They were awful btw) Does Jonny Depp carry on with this staged media crap? No because he doesn't need to. Neither does Jake. Regardless of who is advising him he should cut it out because it only attracts negative energy and distracts from his work.

Cheers ByronBayBaby

^^^ Hear hear! (And thank you. :)) I mean, even today's post confirms that he need not doing anything more than ride a subway (and unknowingly have someone snap his picture while doing it) and people get whipped into a frenzy... It's crazy enough already without manipulating the situation!

And on a personal level, this is exactly why I need another creative outlet as a distraction from all of this. (Working on it!!)
