Jake fans, I think we need to have a talk.

So, apparently the post that I put up earlier this week about Jake's younger years, which took me many, many hours to compile and write, has been posted almost in its entirety and without any reference as to where it came from by a reader at IHJ.

I just want to make it clear that you can't do that.  You can't take credit for something that I wrote.  Not only is it a slap in the face to the time it takes me to write this blog every day, but legally, you can't do that.  Everything on this site that I don't explicitly credit to someone else is my intellectual property; there is (and always has been) a copyright disclaimer at the bottom of this page to make sure there isn't any confusion on that.

I know I'm awesome and all, and I sure as hell appreciate any and every place anyone wants to share my stuff...but for God's sake, you have to tell people where it came from!

And now that I've completely destroyed the mood, here are some pictures of Jake.  He looks annoyed because he just had to sit through the 20 minute version of this rant with me on the phone.

More, as usual...

Did you contact the person who reposted your column? I'd at least contact the admin at IHJ. There are so many people who do not understand copyright . . especially when it comes to internet items.

Becky Heineke June 24, 2010 at 2:21 PM

I did. I commented on the thread and I sent her a private message (along with a promise to contact the admin if she didn't do something), but it's already been up for at least a day. As far as people finding it, reading it, and thinking this girl wrote it, the damage has pretty much already been done.

This is what I came home to this afternoon after finding out my car needs $1200 worth of work done on it. Another day I might not have made such a big deal out of it, but it's not been the greatest day... Ugh.

don't worry, be happy!
everything going to be alright!

I hate to say it, but this doesn't surprise me. Stealing others' ideas has become a norm on the internet, it's a wonder your entire fabulous perfection of a blog hasn't been copy-pasted somewhere else. I know it's a kick in the gut when your original creativity gets stolen, but try to be above this bastard and please don't let this stop you from continuing this awesome blog! I love coming here every day and reading your funny, pointless but priceless Jake related stuff :)

Oh, and LOVE annoyed Jake. Of course he looks sexy when he's annoyed. And angry. Damn, if I ever bump into him in some parallel Donnie Darko style dimension I'm going to annoy him on purpose just to get my groove on.

Nothing Really Matters June 24, 2010 at 2:39 PM

Dude that sucks and is totaly out of order! She should of say it came from you!

Call Me Mo June 24, 2010 at 2:41 PM

Aww. Sorry about it being a craptastic day. It's amazing how people have like no scruples. How can you say "look what I found" and then respond like you put it together yourself? Just wow.

At least Jake knows who the real author of that awesomeness really is. ;]

Becky Heineke June 24, 2010 at 2:57 PM

OK, you guys are totally cheering me up. :)

And Lena, no worries on the blog ending! If I was in it for glory alone, I would have folded weeks ago. Ha! ;D

Poor Jake, having to go through such ups and downs with me all the time...it's a good thing he values my friendship and blogging skills so highly. :) (He is unusually attractive when he's pissed off, I gotta agree there.)

coffeecat June 24, 2010 at 2:59 PM

I'm so sorry you were plagerized/copyright infringed. I'm afraid it's just gonna happen because they are so jealous of your extreme awesomeness.

And I totally agree w/NRM: Dude that sucks and is totally out of order.

SOOOOO glad I credited you on twitpic for a cute photo mockup you did! The irony in all of this is that you constantly give credit to IHJ for photos. Where is the mutual respect? Trust me, PG, YOU have the best, funniest, most clever Jake blog on the net! And if I had read the article somewhere else first, I would have said, "Wow, sounds like PG wrote this!" Love ya!! Just don't piss off Jake anymore, elevated hotness or not, LOL!

Leslie June 24, 2010 at 3:28 PM

Can you post the link to the copied article? I'd like to leave a comment. I suggest we all do.

I'd take Jake in any way, with any mood . . only I wish I were a few years younger. ;) (Although, I was pretty wild so I'm not sure he coulda handled me *giggle*)

Becky Heineke June 24, 2010 at 3:49 PM

I think you have to be registered at the IHJ Message Board to see the post, but it's HERE (in the "Eye Candy" section).

And I do want to clarify that it was an IHJ commenter who posted it and definitely not an admin. I'm just glad someone brought it to my attention...I don't really hang out over there, but I know a lot of Jake fans do. As much as the fansites exist independently of each other, I feel like I'm working too hard to offer something different to let this slide. I'd rather the people who enjoyed that post came here and hung out with us! :)

(And gyllenhaalisgr8, thank you...for both the comment and the credit that I know you gave me! ;))

Mark today on your calendar. I am coining a new word, based on everything I read here. The word is GYLLENHORMONES. Say it. Use it in a sentence. But most of all, OWN IT!!!

Anonymous,  June 24, 2010 at 4:10 PM

Gyllenhaalisgr8, I think my condition has finally been diagnosed properly. You've achieved what no doctor could XD
But can you do the impossible? Find a cure?

Sam June 24, 2010 at 5:06 PM

We all know what a great find this blog is- she should have just linked to it, and joined our community as well as IHJ- silly silly girl.

Im glad you spelt it out PG, it needed to be done. You have done so much great work over the years i feel overly protective of you and this blog!

Also, with the book coming out its important that the peeps know whats right and wrong. Go you!

We got ya back too, always. You know that.

):

I'm sure that the admin's will take care of it so that it doesn't stay up for longer than (un)necessary.

I'm absolutely sure that IHJ and Stephanie at IHJ appreciates you and all the credit you've given them over the years.

So sorry. Please continue your wonderful work here and don't let someone's foolish actions ruin all your hard work!

Becky Heineke June 24, 2010 at 7:13 PM

So, update! The original post has been taken down and I did get an apology...and I probably completely terrorized the person in question, but there it is.

Again, I appreciate the support from you guys more than I can say!! I'm going to try to stop being angry about this... ONWARD!

gyllenhaalisgr8 June 24, 2010 at 9:25 PM

Lena, I have good news and bad news. Regarding Gyllenhormones, the bad news is there is no cure. The good news is...there is no cure! Tell me, Lena -- why would you even want one? I consider my condition terminal, but let them try to wipe the smile off my face!

Anonymous,  June 25, 2010 at 1:26 AM

what a bitch!
how could she do that to you?!?!?! you worked so hard....... it better have been a pretty big apology!
I love your site, and I would never want anyone to hurt it, or you :(

Anonymous,  June 25, 2010 at 8:22 AM

Gyllenhaalisgr8, I kinda figured there'd be no cure :P
But you're right, why would I want one, who cares if people roll their eyes at me while I squeal every time I see Jake's mug. The pleasure really is all mine, hehe.

Anonymous,  June 25, 2010 at 8:35 AM

PG, I'm glad the post got taken down and you received an apology, yeey!!
It wouldn't surprise me if you got Jake to call that thieving bastard and yell at him/her which prompted the unfortunate person to cry and agonize over Jake's threats.
All is right with the world again.

Becky Heineke June 25, 2010 at 11:10 AM

Jake's totally got my back! Well, alright, maybe he doesn't...but I can't even tell you how much I appreciate the fact that you guys do. :)

Thanks for sticking with me while I had this little freakout and for making me feel a lot better about it. Nothing but happy posts now on the horizon! :D
