Happy Bear Grylls Day!

I'm really not sure what all the fuss is about.  You people act like watching Jake eat worms and fall into horrifying knee-deep crevasses (see previous post) is more exciting than what we usually see him doing.

Personally, I think you're all nuts.  Jake is exciting all the time.  Just in the past couple of weeks, we've seen him walk to his car:

Walk to his car carrying a beverage cup:

And walk to his car NOT carrying a beverage cup, but holding his hand like he is because it's apparently now permanently stuck in that position:

But whatever, fine, go and enjoy your season premiere tonight like it's something out of the ordinary or something...

I caught the very tail end of it, but I think a full viewing will definitely have to wait until I'm back home. In the meantime, you guys may already know, but the incomparable Stephanie has the full thing available to download from IHJ. :) ENJOY.

The whole show was very anti-climactic. Basically, their biggest challenge was wind. I was quite bored.

Well Call me Mo i kinda agree, nothing much happened but what can we expect from snow and ice? it was nice to see Bear in a different environment.

So, my observations.

His necklace.. its the necklace he has been wearing forever. Does anyone know what it is or who its from? Its gotta be pretty special for him to put that on for this trip!

There was some seriously scary bits.. like the rope. It looks like there was no security at all. I wouldnt do it if you could give me all the guarantees in the world. Well done to Jake, thats gotta feel great afterwards!

The sheep was discusting and he looked truely horrified after eating the worm!

There is so much you can pick about the show (like how did the camera crew get across that rope?) but its still entertaining. Im just glad they didnt have to drink piss...

Becky, your post and photos cracked me up as usual...

^^^ Thank you, Monica!

I did a quick watch in the midst of unpacking and I have to agree that it wasn't half as exciting as I expected it to be. And I blame that on the editing, which was done to make it seem like something terrible was always *just about* to happen, instead of focusing on what actually *was* happening. Hell, Jake Gyllenhaal spent two days in the snow and ice out of the middle of nowhere. A few more shots of him bitching about the cold and falling down tiny holes would have been more entertaining than watching him NOT gut a rotten sheep. (Dear, Discovery Channel, if you're looking for video editors, I am available.)

Thanks Sasha Monica!!! I guess if they didnt put in the rope bit it would have been a VERY boring episode...

Call Me Mo July 15, 2011 at 7:13 PM

Thank you, PG. I couldn't figure out what it was, myself. Don't get me wrong, you couldn't pay ME enought to wade through a frozen river, pull myself across a 150 ft rope, or even pretend to gut a rotted sheep. For that, Bear and Jake get props from me. The episode was just so slow-paced and the preview made it seem way more exciting.

I can see how dangerous Jake's life is. Beverage cups :D

I liked the Man Vs Wild ep. And I have to give Jake props for facing his fear of heights and eating a worm.
